Cristián Contreras Molina OdeM (born November 8, 1946 in Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of San Felipe .

Life

Cristián Contreras Molina joined the religious community of Mercedarians , made his profession on September 21, 1973 and was ordained a priest on October 12, 1974 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him prelate of Calama on June 11, 1992 . The Archbishop of Santiago de Chile , Carlos Oviedo Cavada OdeM, donated him episcopal ordination on July 5th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Carlos González Cruchaga , Bishop of Talca , and Juan Bautista Herrada Armijo OdeM, Auxiliary Bishop in Antofagasta .

On July 19, 2002 he was appointed Bishop of San Felipe .

Pope Francis accepted his early resignation on September 21, 2018.

Cristián Contreras Molina is one of the seven Chilean bishops who are being investigated by public prosecutors because of various implications in the abuse affair in the Roman Catholic Church in Chile .
