Gonzalo Arturo Bravo Álvarez (born December 30, 1962 in Valparaíso ) is a Chilean clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of San Felipe .

Life

Gonzalo Arturo Bravo Álvarez first studied general engineering at the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María and obtained a licentiate and an engineering degree . He then entered the San Rafael Seminary in Valparaíso and studied at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso . On October 12, 1997, he received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Valparaíso through Archbishop Francisco Javier Errázuriz Ossa .

After further studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, he initially obtained a licentiate in biblical theology and was then awarded a Dr. theol. PhD . In addition to various tasks in pastoral care, he was a professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, whose theological faculty he has been dean of since 2019 . He was also episcopal vicar for the economic affairs of the diocese of Valparaíso.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of San Felipe on May 26, 2020. The Apostolic Nuncio in Chile, Archbishop Alberto Ortega Martín , donated him episcopal ordination on August 15 of the same year . Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Santiago de Chile , Celestino Aós Braco OFMCap , and the Apostolic Administrator of Valparaíso, Auxiliary Bishop Pedro Ossandón Buljevic .
