Alberto Ortega Martín (born November 14, 1962 in Madrid , Spain ) is a Spanish clergyman, Roman Catholic archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Alberto Ortega Martín received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Madrid on April 28, 1990 . He belongs to the Comunione e Liberazione (CL) movement. He studied philosophy and theology and received a doctorate in canon law . On July 1, 1997, he entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See. Ortega Martín was a nunciature advisor in Nicaragua, South Africa, Lebanon and at the Vatican State Secretariat . In 2007 he became director of the Vatican State Secretariat for North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. In the Relationship with States Section of the State Secretariat, as Counselor of the Embassy, ​​he coordinated negotiations with Israel and the Palestinians, among other things.

On August 1, 2015 it appointed Pope Francis to Titular Archbishop of Midila and ordered him to the apostolic nuncio in Jordan and Iraq . The episcopal ordination received his Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin on 10 October of that year. Co- consecrators were Archbishop Paul Gallagher and the Archbishop of Madrid, Carlos Osoro Sierra .

On October 7, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Chile .
