Mitja Leskovar

Mitja Leskovar (born January 3, 1970 in Kranj , Yugoslavia ) is a Slovenian clergyman , Roman Catholic archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

After studying philosophy and Catholic theology at the seminary in Ljubljana , Mitja Leskovar received the sacrament of priestly ordination from the Archbishop of Ljubljana , Alojzij Šuštar , on June 29, 1995 in the Cathedral of St. Nicholas . Leskovar then worked as parish vicar in Domžale for two years , before being sent to Rome for further studies . In 1999 he graduated from the Pontifical Gregorian University , a licentiate and in 2001 he was in the subject canon law doctorate .

On July 1, 2001, Mitja Leskovar entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See. After training at the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy , he worked at the Nunciature in Bangladesh (2001–2003), in the General Affairs Section of the State Secretariat (2003–2014) and at the Nunciature in Germany (2015–2018). Most recently he was Nunciature Councilor at the Nunciature in India .

On 1 May 2020 it appointed Pope Francis to Titular Archbishop of Beneventum and the apostolic nuncio in Iraq . The Prefect Emeritus of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and for Societies of Apostolic Life , Cardinal Franc Rodé CM , donated him episcopal ordination on August 8 of the same year in the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Ljubljana ; Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio in Slovenia, Archbishop Jean-Marie Speich , and the Archbishop of Ljubljana, Stanislav Zore OFM .
