Crockett is a settlement ( census-designated place ) in Contra Costa County in the US state of California with 3,094 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Crockett is right on Carquinez Street . The Carquinez Bridge as part of Interstate 80 leads to the opposite town of Vallejo . Oakland is 30 kilometers southwest of Crockett . To the southeast, the towns of Walnut Creek and Danville are 25 and 35 kilometers away, respectively.
history
In 1867 a settler bought property from Judge Joseph B. Crockett and named the place. Due to the convenient location in terms of transport, other settlers followed. After the California and Hawaiian Sugar Refining Company opened a sugar factory in 1906 , it employed 490 people and produced 67,000 tons of sugar. Over 700,000 t of sucrose ( cane sugar ) are now processed annually and over 70 different brands are produced.
