Csaba Székely

Csaba Székely (born October 13, 1951 in Bad Aussee , Styria ) is an Austrian railroad manager and transport economist. From 2007 to 2010 he was General Director of Raab-Oedenburg-Ebenfurter Eisenbahn AG .

Life

The son of Hungarian parents who fled to Austria in 1945, Csaba Székely spent his childhood in Gößl am Grundlsee , Styria. After graduating from high school, he first studied English and German in Vienna, but later changed the fields of study. He completed his studies in 1980 with a doctorate in political science. From 1977 to 1988 he worked as a journalist (e.g. for the Kronen Zeitung ), from 1988 to 1996 press spokesman for Transport Ministers Rudolf Streicher and Viktor Klima , from 1995 to 1996 member of the supervisory board of Raab-Oedenburg-Ebenfurter Eisenbahn AG, from 1996 to 2006 director of the board of Raab-Oedenburg-Ebenfurter Eisenbahn AG and head of the branches in Vienna and Wulkaprodersdorf . He is also considered a profound expert on Austrian railways in specialist circles.

During his period of activity, the commissioning of a regular service between Vienna Südbahnhof and Sopron in 1997, the electrification of the Neusiedler Seebahn between Neusiedl am See and Fertőszentmiklós in 2004, the takeover of operations on the Szombathely - Szentgotthárd - Mogersdorf (state border) section of the former Hungarian Western Railway from MÁV in 2006 .

Awards

On January 1, 2007, Csaba Székely was awarded the Great Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria by the then Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Transport, Innovation and Technology Hubert Gorbach .

On December 19, 2016, Csaba Székely was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Province of Burgenland by Governor Hans Niessl.
