Csanád Fodor (born November 16, 1990 in Miercurea Ciuc ) is a Romanian ice hockey player who has been playing for HSC Csíkszereda in the Romanian ice hockey league and the MOL league since 2017 .

Career

Club

Csanád Fodor, who belongs to the Hungarian-speaking Szekler minority in Romania , began his career with Dunaújvárosi Acélbikák from Central Transdanubia in the Hungarian U18 league. In 2007 he moved to league competitor Budapest Stars in the Hungarian capital, where he was also initially active in the junior division. He also played individual games for the Slovakian cooperation partner of the Stars, the HK Nové Zámky . In 2008 he made his debut in the MOL league . In his very first season he reached the play-off semifinals there and was the Hungarian runner-up with his team in the same year. In 2011 he went to Romania for the ASC Corona 2010 Brașov , with which he won the Romanian Ice Hockey Cup in 2013 . He then moved again to Budapest and played for the MOL league competitor Ferencváros Budapest . During the current season, however, he left the team from Franzenvorstadt and returned to Corona Brașov. With the Kronstadt team, he became the Hungarian champion for the first time in 2014 and took second place in the MOL league . In 2015 he won the Romanian ice hockey cup with the club and the championship again in 2017. After the championship title, he moved to HSC Csíkszereda and won the double of the championship and the cup in 2018 with the traditional Szekler club.

International

In contrast to other Szeklers who compete for Hungary , Fodor plays internationally for his native Romania . He was already active in the junior division at world championships: At the U-18 World Championship in 2008 and at the U-20 World Championship in 2010, he played in Division II.

Fodor made his debut in the men's national team at the 2014 World Cup in Division I, in which he also played in 2016 and 2018 . In the 2014 and 2016 tournaments, the Romanians relegated from Division I to Division II. There he played at the 2017 World Cup , where he contributed to the promotion to Division I as the best striker of the tournament.
