Career

McKenzie spent his junior years between 2007 and 2009 with the Penticton Vees in the lower class British Columbia Hockey League . In his rookie season , he won the Fred Page Cup with the team . In the summer of 2009, the 18-year-old was selected by the Dallas Stars from the National Hockey League in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft in the sixth round in 159th position. The striker then did not move directly to the professional field, but enrolled at Miami University in the US state of Ohio . In addition to his four-year studies, the striker played for the university's ice hockey team in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . With the team he won the division championship in 2011.

In April 2013, McKenzie switched to the professional field after signing a contract with the Dallas Stars. During the remainder of the 2012/13 season he was with the Texas Stars in the American Hockey League for use. There he also spent his first full season as a professional, which was extremely successful with winning the Calder Cup, being named to the AHL All-Rookie Team and being voted the winner of the Dudley "Red" Garrett Memorial Awards . In the course of the 2014/15 season , the Canadian managed to join the Dallas NHL squad, so that his appearances in the NHL and AHL were divided roughly equally. In the 2015/16 season , the attacker only made three occasional missions for Dallas and was again mainly active in the AHL. For the 2016/17 season McKenzie finally managed to establish himself in the NHL.

After five years in the organization of the stars, his contract was not extended after the 2017/18 season, so he joined the Vegas Golden Knights as a free agent in July 2018 .
