Cynthia Nickschas (born December 27, 1987 in Tuttlingen , Baden-Württemberg ) is a German songwriter .

Life

Cynthia Nickschas is the daughter of Roswitha Nickschas (piano teacher) and Reinhard Nickschas (guitar teacher). Until she was 18, she took piano lessons from various teachers. Among other things, she sang in the church choir and in school choirs. At the age of 18 she switched from the piano to the guitar and wrote her first own songs. After graduating from university in 2007, she worked in the kitchen of a restaurant. Before she planned to start training in the restaurant, she lost her job for operational reasons. Nick Shas went with her guitar on the road and caught with the busking on. Cynthia Nickschas lives in Bonn with her band in a shared apartment .

Career

As a street musician , she toured Germany and developed her own songs. The first bookings and appearances at small festivals, in pubs and clubs soon followed. In 2011 she won the street music competition in Geldern . In November 2011 she finished with her song tanz! 6th place at the WDR show The best street musicians from NRW .

In 2012 she founded her band Cynthia Nickschas & Friends , consisting of a second guitar (Stefan Doc Janzik), acoustic bass (Christoph Wegener) and cajón or drums (Mario Hühn). A saxophone (Christian Zet Zerban) has also been part of the band since September 2014 . Together they have performed at festivals such as the Burg-Herzberg-Festival or various small festivals and are still on the road as street musicians.

Nickschas met Konstantin Wecker through the songwriter Prinz Chaos II , who signed her to his label Sturm & Klang . Her first studio album Kopfregal was released there on September 26, 2014. On Konstantin Wecker's album Ohne Why , she is involved with vocals and guitar and sings with him a. a. the songs Revolution and Heilger Tanz in a duet. She accompanies him on his Without Why tour 2015/2016 as a member of his band and performed with him at his concert at songs on a summer evening in August 2015, where she had already performed in 2014 as a winner of the Hanns Seidel Foundation .

With her own songs, which are a "mix of styles from folk and blues with critical texts that deal primarily with the inadequacies of their own generation", Cynthia Nickschas had solo appearances in 2014 at the 3sat Festival, 2014 and 2015 at the songs on one Summer evening , in May 2015 at an Wecker concert evening in the Schauspielhaus Bochum , in June at the Tollwood Summer Festival in Munich. In August she performed at the open-air concert of the Nuremberg Bardentreffen . The Taz wrote that she represented "with her snotty street songs, perhaps the closest thing to the rebellious and eccentric that the festival had in its origins". In her songs, she combines punk inappropriateness with tangible visions for another world and also pulls the listener out of their comfort zone, WDR5 found .
