D'arcy Elizabeth Wretzky-Brown (born May 1, 1968 in South Haven , Michigan ) is an American rock musician who became known as the bassist of the successful alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins .

Life

D'arcy Wretzky grew up in South Haven. She played the violin , oboe and sang in the choir . In high school, she discovered post-punk and began playing in cover bands.

D'arcy joined the Smashing Pumpkins, founded by Billy Corgan and James Iha in 1987, after an intense discussion between her and Corgan after a concert. With her the band recorded the studio albums Gish , Siamese Dream , Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and Adore . She also recorded all but one of the bass parts for the album Machina / The Machines of God .

In 1996 she acted for the band Catherine as second voice on the single Four Leaf Clover , as well as backing singer in the song Punch Me Out , both appeared on the album Hot Saki & Bedtime Stories .

After almost twelve years as a member of the Smashing Pumpkins, D'arcy Wretzky left the band in 1999 and stated that he wanted to work as an actress from then on. On the last tour in 2000, after which the band broke up, they were replaced by Melissa Auf der Maur .

Wretzky has lived in Watervliet ( Michigan ) since then , where she owns a horse farm, among other things. In January 2000 she was arrested for cocaine possession ( crack ). She underwent drug withdrawal and was not convicted in return. Billy Corgan said with hindsight that Wretzky's escalating drug addiction was the reason she left the Smashing Pumpkins . D'arcy Wretzky did not react to Corgan's plans for a reunion of the Smashing Pumpkins in the original line-up, which he made public in 2005.

She is considered a Depeche Mode fan and was also the one who got Billy Corgan to record a cover version of their song Never Let Me Down Again . The song appeared on the soundtrack for Not Another Teen Movie! and the tribute album For the Masses .

D'arcy was temporarily married to Kerry Brown, Catherine's drummer .
