action

Rahul has been in love with Kiran since high school, but has never dared speak to her and tell her. Over time, this love for her became an obsession that he can no longer control. The reason is Sunil, a naval officer who is courting Kiran and even wants to marry her.

Rahul anonymously terrorizes Kiran on the phone and follows her. Despite best efforts, Sunil fails to uncover the identity of the stalker. When he is about to confront the stranger, Sunil is hit by a car. After this incident, Kiran demands that they leave town, but Sunil is able to dissuade her from marrying them.

Rahul scratches Kiran's name on his chest and vows to destroy the marriage. When Kiran and Sunil move into their new apartment, he kills two police officers. Sunil finds the stalker's messages, which are written all over the apartment in red.

On the run from the stalker , Sunil takes Kiran with him to Switzerland . They are manipulating the records to make it look like they have traveled to Goa . Rahul follows the wrong track to Goa and meets his old student friend Vikram there. When he learns that Vikram, a heavy drinker, is going to die of liver failure, he decides to make it look like Vikram is the stalker.

After Rahul befriends Kiran's family and learns that they are in Switzerland, he travels there himself. He meets with Sunil under the guise of friendship, but a series of incidents leads Sunil to suspect that Rahul is the real stalker. Sunil makes Rahul drunk and tries to find out the truth. However, this does not succeed. After putting Kiran on a boat, Sunil learns the truth during a fight with Rahul, but is stabbed and left dying.

Rahul locates Kiran and confesses his crimes to her. Assuming Sunil is dead, he urges Kira to marry him. Sunil comes as a surprise, and a brutal fight with Rahul ensues, in the course of which Rahul is shot. In his last words, he once again confesses his love for Kiran. Sunil and Kiran travel back to India where they are warmly welcomed by Kiran's family.

background

  • The film claims to introduce a sentiment previously neglected in romance films: fear. For this purpose, he uses film noir stylistic devices such as the repetition of a stalker's gaze from the camera perspective, which puts the viewer in the position of the murderous voyeur.

Awards

1994: Filmfare Award for Anupam Kher for best comedian.
