history

Döbra was first mentioned in 1374 as Dobyr . The history of Dobra's settlement can, however, be traced back to the Neolithic Age through the remains of settlement and grave remains. The place name can be derived from the Sorbian dobry 'valley' or debr 'gut' and goes back to the location of the village in a valley on the Black Elster. The street perch village was a knight seat in the Middle Ages . In 1777 the place is referred to as the Vorwerk of the Skaska manor, in 1834 the place is again called as an independent manor. In 1875 the place was first called Döbra bei Kamenz under its current name.

On January 1, 1969, the municipality Döbra merged with Skaska and Trado to form the new municipality Skaska-Döbra . This was dissolved in the course of a municipal reform on January 1, 1994, and Döbra has been part of the municipality of Oßling since then .

Population and language

The population of Dobra in 1777 consisted of four possessed men as well as five gardener and ten housekeeping families. A homestead lay desolate. In 1834 the place had 157 inhabitants, this number rose to 214 inhabitants by 1910. In the following years the population remained largely constant. After the end of the Second World War , the population rose to 281 as a result of refugees from the German eastern regions, and the number has been falling continuously since then. Most of the residents of Döbra are of the Evangelical Lutheran denomination.

Döbra originally belonged to the Upper Sorbian language area . In the statistics on the Sorbian population in Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 162 in 1884, of which 133 were Sorbs (82%). In 1956 Ernst Tschernik counted only 44 Sorbs (21%) out of 271 inhabitants, meanwhile Sorbian has disappeared from everyday language use.
