Kaushambi is a district in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .

The area is 1779 km². The administrative seat is the city of Manjhanpur .

The population is 1,599,596 (2011). The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 23.70%, which is very high. Jalaun has a gender ratio of 865 women per 1000 men. The district has a literacy rate of 61.28% in 2011, an increase of almost 15 percentage points compared to 2001. Almost 86% of the population are Hindus and around 14% are Muslims .
