GDR championships in gymnastics 1984
The GDR gymnastics championships were held for the 35th time in 1984 and took place from May 29th to June 3rd in Leipzig Exhibition Center 7. For the first time, the championships were coupled with the championships in rhythmic gymnastics. In the all-around competition, Jens Fischer from SC Cottbus successfully defended his title from the previous year and Maxi Gnauck from SC Dynamo Berlin secured her third title after 1981 and 1982 .

All-around program: compulsory May 29th, freestyle May 30th and all -around finals June 1st - 7:00 pm
All-around
Success could Jens Fischer defend his title and referred his club mates Sylvio Kroll as last year to second place. Fishermen who set up with 116,450 points a new all-around points record, the old record improved by Klaus Köste from the year 1968 . Kroll and the third, the Potsdam ASK gymnast Holger Behrendt , surpassed the old record with their all-round scores.

champion Jens Fischer defended his title on parallel bars like Roland Brückner on the ground. The other titles were secured by Holger Behrendt on the pommel horse and on the rings as well as Sylvio Kroll on the horizontal bar and in the jump together with Bernd Jensch .

Maxi Gnauck from Berlin won the all- around title, ahead of Bettina Schieferdecker and Birgit Senff from Leipzig . They also set a new all-around high score in which they the 78.90 points Erika Zuchold from the year 1968 surpassed with her 78.975 points.

After defending her title in the jump, Birgit Senff still won on the balance beam. After winning the all-around competition, Maxi Gnauck secured the titles on the uneven bars and on the floor, where she got the highest score of 10.
