GDR championships in gymnastics 1983
The GDR gymnastics championships were held for the 34th time in 1983 and took place in Berlin from August 17th to 20th . The venue was the Dynamo sports hall in the Hohenschönhausen sports forum . Jens Fischer from SC Cottbus and Sylvia Rau from SC Dynamo Berlin won titles in the all- around competition. Fischer won the first GDR all-around title for his club and secured four more titles in the device finals.
Men
All-around program of the 23 gymnasts: compulsory August 17th - 4:00 p.m., freestyle August 18 - 3:00 p.m. and all-round finals August 19 - 7:00 p.m.
All-around
Jens Fischer caught his club mate Sylvio Kroll , the leader after compulsory and freestyle, in the all-around final and secured the title. Behind the second-placed Kroll, the six-time all- around champion Roland Brückner came in third.

There were new titleholders on all machines. All- around champion Jens Fischer secured the title on the rings, in the jump and on the horizontal bar and shared the title on parallel bars with Sylvio Kroll . The other titles were won by Roland Brückner on the floor and Ralf Quast on the pommel horse.

Margin notes
The outstanding gymnast of the last championship Maxi Gnauck , was injured during the Gymnastics European Championships in Gothenburg at the elbow and surgery itself had to undergo. Next to her, Michael Nikolay and Holger Behrendt were also absent due to injuries.
