GDR championships in gymnastics 1982

The GDR gymnastics championships were held for the 33rd time in 1982 and took place from December 17th to 19th in Leipzig Exhibition Center 7. In the all- around competition, Frank Bouchard from SC DHfK Leipzig won and in the women’s Maxi Gnauck from SC Dynamo Berlin successfully defended her title from the previous year.

All-around

All around champion Frank Bouchard

29 gymnasts took part in the all-around program. Frank Bouchard , who was already in the lead after compulsory training, clearly secured the title ahead of Holger Behrendt and Michael Nikolay . The 6-time all-around champion and defending champion Roland Brückner was absent due to an injury.

Device finals

Date: September 19 - exhibition hall sold out with 3,000 spectators
. There were new titleholders on all devices. All- around champion Frank Bouchard secured the title on the parallel bars and shared the title on the horizontal bar with Ulf Hoffmann . The 17-year-old Sylvio Kroll won the first championship title for SC Cottbus in the jump . The other titles were secured by Andreas Eichelbaum on the floor, Michael Nikolay on the pommel horse and Hubert Brylok on the rings.

After winning the all- around event , Maxi Gnauck defended her title on the uneven bars and on the floor and was also successful in jumping. For her freestyle exercise on the uneven bars, she received the highest score of 10. The title on the balance beam was shared by Franka Voigt and Susen Tiedtke . The 13-year-old Tiedtke is the youngest female champion of all time in the GDR.
