The vehicles of the DR series ET 51.1 were electric railcars of the Deutsche Reichsbahn for express train traffic in Silesia .

history

The railcars of the ET 51.1 series were developed from the previous ET 51 series , which had been specially designed for use in the Silesian network in 1934 . The new railcars differed from their predecessors primarily in terms of modified electrical equipment, higher performance and a lower service weight. Externally, the vehicles now had smooth outer walls without recessed entry areas, which gave them a much more modern look. They also had special post and customs rooms for cross-border traffic to Meziměstí / Halbstadt, but these were no longer necessary upon delivery.

The Linke-Hofmann-Werke in Breslau manufactured the mechanical part, the BBC was responsible for the delivery of the electrical components . In 1939 the four units consisting of railcars and control cars were delivered to the Deutsche Reichsbahn.

ET 51 11-13 were at the end of the war in the Hirschberg depot, where they were confiscated by the Soviet Union in 1945 as reparations. ET 51 14 was based at the Leipzig Hbf West depot from April 4, 1945 and also came to the Soviet Union in August 1946. The four railcars were dismantled in the Soviet Union, engines and transformers came back to the GDR in 1952/53. Only the control car ES 51 11 came to the Deutsche Bundesbahn. From then on, this was used in suburban traffic in Stuttgart and later converted to the ES 65.33 .

commitment

The ET 51 were primarily used in express train traffic on the Silesian Mountain Railway between Görlitz and Breslau Freiburg station. However, there is also evidence of operations in passenger trains, for example on the Nieder Salzbrunn – Halbstadt connection . They were based in Halbstadt .
