The series DSB Tractor 251-290 are light B-coupled diesel - shunting tractors that were built in 1966 and 1968 and the 1969th They are used on the systems of the Danske Statsbaner ( German  Danish State Railways ) in Denmark . The shunting tractors are used for smaller transport tasks and for shunting on connecting railways and in train stations.

history

To completely replace the steam locomotives in shunting operations in Denmark, the 120 units of the MH (II) diesel locomotive series procured between 1960 and 1965 were not enough. So considerations were made to procure more locomotives. Since the MH (II) with 440 hp and a top speed of 60 km / h could be used well in light route service, solutions for shunting in the stations were sought. Since good experiences had been made with the shunting tractors from Ardelt, the DSB tractor series 101–116 and the license replica DSB tractor 117–146 from Frichs, the procurement of even lighter locomotives without rod drives was considered.

Due to the positive experience in Germany with small locomotives (Köf), the Danske Statsbaner rented the Köf 6645 on November 28, 1963 , which was in Denmark from March 14 to August 13, 1964 after a briefing by DSB train drivers. After the trials, the DSB ordered 20 shunting tractors, which were called in parlance based on the German name Køf . The 251–270 were ordered from Frichs in Århus and delivered in 1966.

In contrast to the German series, the Danish Køf have an English Leyland engine. In 1967 DSB ordered another 20 Køf from Frichs, the 271-290 . The series received a closed cab with windows and doors and was delivered in 1968 and 1969.

Calls

The Køf were used in addition to the shunting service at stations in the central workshops in Aarhus and Copenhagen as well as in the Fredericia, København and Århus depots and in the Fredericia rail depot . The shunting tractors could be observed on some freight transport customers who had trained operating personnel.

In exceptional cases, as between Vejen and Brørup , the locomotives made service trips to the route service.

maintenance

In 1996 the DSB procured two Køf transport wagons that had been converted from Gs in order to avoid having to take them to the responsible workshop in Fredericia under their own steam.

construction

The driver's cab is equipped with an operator station on both sides and, with the low floor height of around 400 mm above the top edge of the rails, is adapted for getting in and out when maneuvering. The six-cylinder four-stroke engine from Leyland develops 128 hp (94 kW) at 1800 rpm. Its cooling water system has a pre-heating of 2000 W at 110 V. The motor is a drive shaft with the Voith - hydraulic transmission connected L33u. Power is transmitted from the Voith gearbox via a Gmeinder reversing gearbox and a chain drive to both axles.

The engine, which is operated via a handwheel, drives the compressor and generator via belts . The brake valve for the train is on the right-hand side of the driver's cab, the locomotive alone can be braked using a brake valve on the left and right.

The first 20 locomotives were delivered with open cabs without doors and side windows. The second series was delivered with a completely closed driver's cab, and the first series was retrofitted from 1968.

Originally all vehicles were equipped with an automatic shunting coupling at both ends , which automatically coupled when approaching a car and could be uncoupled from the driver's cab using compressed air. For train journeys, it was folded up and the screw coupling of the first car was connected to the coupling hook of the locomotive. Individual locomotives later received normal screw couplings.

From around 1980, yellow flashing lights were installed on the driver's cab roofs for use, among other things, on port tracks. At the end of the 1980s, the exhaust was rebuilt and led to the rear end of the cab in a long pipe. The cab was lined with sound-insulating mats to reduce noise.

No. 270 was the only locomotive to have a snow plow .

Coloring

All locomotives were green with yellow lettering when they were delivered in the DSB design of that time. Twelve of them received the red and black DSB design from 1972, one was painted completely red and another was given yellow cab end walls. To make it easier for the signal box staff to recognize the numbers of the locomotives, some of them were painted with large numbers on the roof.

RDK tractor 251… 290

When the freight transport division was spun off from DSB in 2001 to the Railion Danmark company , numerous locomotives were sold to Railion . This affected DSB 251, 252, 254–262, 264, 266–268, 275–278, 281–284, 286, 289 and 290. All others stayed with DSB.

RDK 290 was parked in 2001, transferred to Henriksen, Århus, for scrapping in 2006, but bought again in 2007 by DSB, refurbished and has since been used at DSB Godsvogne Fredericia . In 2012 it was repainted red.

RSC tractor 251… 290

When Railion Danmark was absorbed into DB Schenker Rail Scandinavia in 2009, only RSC 254, 259, 260, 262, 276, 278, 281 and 282 were taken over. The other small locomotives were no longer in the RDK inventory.

RSC 259 was sold to DSB in 2011 and is back in service as DSB 259 .

VLTJ Køff / MjbaD Køff

  • RDK 252 was bought in 2004 by Vemb – Lemvig – Thyborøn Jernbane A / S , classified as VLTJ Køff 29 and loaned to Cheminova. In 2008 the locomotive was merged with Midtjyske Jernbaner and given the new designation MjbaD Køff 29 .
  • RDK 260 was bought in 2013 and has been in Lemvig since January 24, 2014. It is run by Midtjyske Jernbaner as MjbaD Køff 260 .
  • RDK 283 was bought in 2006 and named VLTJ Køff 21 . She has been in Lemvig since January 5, 2007 and has been run by Midtjyske Jernbaner as MjbaD Køff 21 since 2008 .
