The series DSB Tractor 117-146 are light B-coupled diesel - shunting tractors that were built in 1955, 1958 and 1959th They were used on the lines of the Danske Statsbaner ( German  Danish State Railways ) in Denmark . The shunting tractors were used for smaller transport tasks and for shunting on connecting railways and in train stations.

History and commitment

After the series of 16 shunting tractors procured by Ardelt in Germany from 1951 to 1954 , Danske Statsbaner (DSB) ordered a further 30 diesel-mechanical shunting tractors from the Danish locomotive manufacturer Frichs . The locomotives had two axles and were driven by a jackshaft and coupling rods . With regard to the first series procured by Ardelt, these locomotives were also called "Ardelt traktorer" by Frichs.

The first series with ten locomotives built in 1955 was given the road numbers 117 to 126. The locomotives were used west of the Great Belt , where, like the Ardelt locomotives, they mainly replaced the small steam shunting locomotives of the Hs (I) and Hs (II) series . Compared to the German series, the superstructures were welded instead of riveted and the redesigned driver's cab had rounded edges. The doors of the engine front had ventilation slots. The engine was supplied by Frichs and the patented Ardelt gearbox with five gears was purchased.

Another 20 copies followed in 1958/59. These were different from the first series in terms of the doors of the engine front end, which had x-shaped stiffeners. The locomotives were given the road numbers 127 to 146 and were also distributed to Jutland , Fyn and Als .

The locomotives were painted green throughout their entire service life, and the paintwork was renewed in this color during inspections. Only the series labeling changed. The original shaded letters and numbers with the crown were carried out by those in standard script , later in the Helvetica font with letters and numbers in white or yellow.

Homes and missions

All vehicles were at the Aarhus depot ( Danish Maskindepot Aarhus ). Repairs and deadline work were carried out there. From there they were assigned to the deployment stations in Struer , Aalborg , Fredericia , Padborg and Odense , which they were further distributed to individual deployment stations.

In 1966, the depot in Struer had seven of these tractors, which in turn were distributed to the stations in Skive , Thisted , Holstebro , Herning , Skjern , Ringkøbing and one as a reserve in Struer. Small repairs were carried out in Struer after the locomotives had been replaced, and they were transferred to Aarhus for a general overhaul.

The stations in Tinglev , Vojens and Sønderborg were subordinate to the depot in Padborg and the stations Langå , Viborg , Silkeborg and Horsens to the Aarhus depot . The locomotives were exchanged either by being provided in freight trains, by special trips or by transfer trips with railcars of the MO series or locomotives of the MT (II) series , which were located in the depots.

In addition to shunting, the locomotives were used for light handover trains. A freight train drove to Hedensted every day and delivered wagons there. The entire freight traffic on the Vojens – Haderslev railway was carried out by the Frichs locomotives.

Retirement

In 1982, No. 123 was the first locomotive to be retired after it collided with a passenger train operated by the MX 1028 in Herning on August 25, 1982 .

In the mid-1980s, the locomotives began to be shut down and scrapped, the last revision was carried out in 1987, and from 1989 the stations of Viborg, Vojens and Hobro were the last stations.

Some of them were scrapped in Bjerringbro or Aarhus. Some of them survived on various museum railways and as work locomotives for larger companies.

SB T 4 / SB T 53 / NJ T 53

After retirement in 1989, the shunting tractor No. 119 was given to the Dansk Jernbane Club for use on the Mariager-Handest Veteranjernbane . In 1993 the vehicle was taken over by Skagensbanen and used as the T 4 . In 1999 the T 4 was classified as the T 53 in a new numbering scheme.

As a result of the operational merger of Skagensbanen and Hjørring Privatbaner to form Nordjyske Jernbaner , it was renamed NJ T 53 in 2001 . In 2003 the locomotive was handed over to the Dansk Jernbane Club , which used it on the Limfjordsbane . The traditional DSB No. 119 was used.

HP T 12

After it was taken out of service in 1986, the shunting tractor No. 146 was sold to Hjørring Privatbaner and used under the number HP T 12 . In 2001 the locomotive went to the Dansk Jernbane Club for use on the Limfjordsbane .
