Dagmar Ploetz

Dagmar Ploetz (born September 12, 1946 in Herrsching am Ammersee ) is a German literary translator .

Life

Dagmar Ploetz lived in Argentina from 1948 to 1965 . She later completed a degree in German and Romance languages at the University of Munich . She then worked as a publishing editor and freelance journalist . Since 1984 she has been a freelance translator from Spanish. Ploetz lives in Munich . She is married to the writer Uwe Timm . Her grandfather is Alfred Ploetz , who founded eugenics in Germany and coined the term “racial hygiene”.

Dagmar Ploetz has emerged with transcriptions of works by Spanish (including Rafael Chirbes and Juan Marsé ) and Latin American authors (especially Gabriel García Márquez ) as well as two biographies on Gabriel García Márquez. In 2005 she received the Jane Scatcherd Prize and in 2012 the Translation Prize of the City of Munich .

Ploetz is a member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ.
