Church of St-Severin

In the Middle Ages Conthey belonged to the Duchy of Savoy , while the neighboring communities of Sion (French: Sion) and Savièse were owned by the Bishop of Sion. This led to numerous conflicts.

Today Conthey is best known as a regional shopping center and - after Satigny GE , Chamoson VS and Sitten - as the fourth largest wine-growing community in Switzerland. Conthey, like other areas in the Valais Rhône Valley, enjoys a mild climate with below-average rainfall.
