Dallas is a city and also the county seat of Paulding County in the US state of Georgia with 11,544 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Dallas is about 40 km northwest of Atlanta .
history
The city was founded on May 14, 1852 and named after George M. Dallas , the US Vice President from 1845 to 1849 under James K. Polk .
During the American Civil War , the city played a major role in the Atlanta campaign from May to September 1864 , as the Battle of Dallas took place here on May 28, 1864. Today the New Hope Church monument commemorates this .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the 11,544 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 4,458 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.55 people per household. There are a total of 4,970 households.
65.3% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.14 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 42.4% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 17.2% of all households.
32.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 32.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 22.0% were 40 to 59 years old, and 13.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 31 years. 45.4% of the population were male and 54.6% were female.
61.1% of the population identified themselves as whites , 31.2% as African-Americans , 0.4% as Indians and 1.3% as Asian Americans . 3.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.0% to several ethnic groups. 7.2% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 48,920 USD , while 15.1% of the population lived below the poverty line.

The Paulding County Courthouse and Pickett's Mill Battlefield Site are listed on the National Register of Historic Places .

Dallas is crossed by US Highway 278 and Georgia State Routes 6 , 61 , 120 and 381 . The nearest airport is Atlanta Airport (around 60 km southeast).

The crime rate in 2010 was 255 points (US average: 266 points) in the average range. There was one murder, one rape, five robberies, 34 personal injuries, 83 break-ins, 236 thefts and 29 car thefts.
