Damak is a Hungarian community in the county Edelény in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén .

Geographical location

Damak is located in northern Hungary , 30 kilometers north of Miskolc . Neighboring communities are Hegymeg five kilometers and Lak seven kilometers away. Both are northeast of Damak. The nearest town, Edelény , is seven kilometers west of Damak.

history

Before the Second World War , the residents lived from agriculture. After the war, people worked in producer cooperatives and in mines in the area. After the system change , the producer cooperatives were dissolved and the mines closed, so that a large part of the residents became unemployed. As a result, many looked for work in the neighboring town of Edelény.

Until 1992 the place belonged to Edelény and only then became an independent municipality.

Attractions

  • Reformed Church. As early as 1785, a small church was built on a stone foundation with a shingle roof, which was rebuilt in 1898. The current church was built in 1913 with a 22 meter high tower on the western facade. The church organ was destroyed in World War II. The church bell, weighing 75 kilograms, was cast by János Jüsztel in Eger .
