Szendrő is a Hungarian town in the county Edelény in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén .
Geographical location
Szendrő is located in northern Hungary , 40 km north of Miskolc . The border with Slovakia runs about 15 km north (as the crow flies). On the main road 27 , which runs through the town, after about 24 km in a north-easterly direction you come to Tornanádaska , where there is a border crossing.
history
Szendrő was first mentioned in 1317. The castle was one of the earliest stone castles in the region. It was an important border fortification during the Turkish occupation of parts of Hungary in the 16th and 17th centuries. During the uprising of Francis II Rákóczi (1702–1711), he destroyed the castle in 1707.
In 1896 Szendrő received a railway connection, in 1996 the place was given city status.
