Olef is a district of Schleiden in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Euskirchen . It is located on the Olef between Schleiden and Gemünd . The Selbach and Rosselbach rivers rise to the east of the village and both flow into the Olef. With over 1,100 inhabitants, Olef is the third largest district. There is a kindergarten and the Catholic Church of St. Johann Baptist in the village .

Olef was first mentioned in 1252. The parish church and its west tower also date from the 13th century; The baptismal font made of Namur bluestone and the rare two-story altar are well worth seeing . In the 14th century the parish of Olef belonged to the Jülich subordinate Dreiborn .

Until the reorganization of the communities and districts of the reorganization area Aachen, which came into effect on January 1, 1972, Olef belonged to the Dreiborn community, which was dissolved at the same time.

The Oleftalbahn , which today is only used as a museum railway and for goods traffic, has a stop in the village. The subsequent route of the normal-gauge route through the middle of the Olefer Dorfplatz is unique in Germany. A shunter with a warning flag must therefore precede the train every time it crosses the village square. Only in Bad Doberan is there anything like it; however, there is a narrow-gauge railway ( Bäderbahn Molli ).

The local public transport is now carried out exclusively by bus, there are two bus stops in town.

Olef is located in the network area of the Rhein-Sieg transport association (VRS) . The VRS bus routes are operated by Regionalverkehr Köln (RVK). In addition, Olef is also connected with two bus lines from the Aachener Verkehrsverbund (AVV).
