The Dana is a Danish research vessel . The ship belongs to the Danmarks Tekniske Universitet . It is the Institute DTU Aqua the Technical University of Denmark bereedert . The ship is Denmark's largest research ship and the only one that can be used anywhere in the world.
history
The ship was built under construction number 175 on the Dannebrog Værft in Aarhus . The keel was laid in July 1979, the launch in April 1980. The ship was completed on January 14, 1981.
The ship is equipped for worldwide use and can be used in various research areas.
Technical data and equipment
The drive takes place by two B & W - Diesel engines of the type 12V 23LU each with 1710 kW power . The motors act on a controllable pitch propeller via reduction gears . The ship reaches a maximum of 15.5 kn . The ship is equipped with an electrically driven transverse thruster control system in the bow and stern area .
For the power supply are three diesel generator sets are available, the three Cummins - twelve-cylinder engines are driven type KTA 2300, each with 737 kW of power. An emergency generator is also available, which is powered by a Scania DSI 1101 M01 diesel engine.
The ship has six decks. There are five laboratories on board, including a 50 m² wet and an 18 m² dry laboratory as well as a 15 m² 14C laboratory for determining the age of samples. A container can be carried on the aft deck if the ship is not used as a stern catcher during the research trip. There is a conference room on the boat deck.
For fisheries research, the ship is designed as a stern catcher with a tow . Research equipment can also be moved using the lift. The ship is equipped with various echo sounders . There are several winches on the aft deck . In the aft deck area there are two cranes for moving loads that can lift 3 or 6 t. Another crane is in front of the deckhouse. From a hydrography room on the port side of the ship, research equipment can be lowered into and retrieved from the water with the aid of outriggers. In the mast there is a closed crow's nest that can be used to observe marine mammals and birds .
There are 38 individual cabins on board the ship, most of which are located below the main deck. 12 to 18 cabins are required for the ship's crew , the rest is available for scientists. On the main deck, in addition to the laboratory rooms, there are u. a. also two mess rooms and lounges, a smoker's lounge as well as galley and pantry .
The ship can stay at sea for up to 50 days, covering 14,000 nautical miles . The hull of the ship is reinforced with ice ( ice class 1A).
