Dana Hall (born March 13, 1969 in New York City ) is an American jazz musician ( drums ) and university professor.

Live and act

Hall grew up in Philadelphia and studied at Iowa State University . He received his Bachelor of Music from William Paterson College in Wayne, New Jersey, the Master in Composition and Arrangement from DePaul University (recordings with the ensemble were made in 1997) and was active in Chicago's jazz scene from the 1990s; first recordings were made in 1995 with Brad Goode ( Toy Trumpet ( SteepleChase ), with Ira Sullivan , Jodie Christian , Larry Kohut ). In the following years he played a. a. with Malachi Thompson , the Chicago Jazz Ensemble , Clark Sommers , Geof Bradfield , Bobby Broom , Terell Stafford , John Wojciechowski , Ralph Bowen , Bruce Barth ( Three Things of Beauty , 2012), Jim Brenan and with Bob Lark and His Alumni Big Band . In 2010, Hall recorded his only album to date under his own name for Origin Records , Into the Light with Terell Stafford, Tim Warfield , Bruce Barth and Rodney Whitaker . In the field of jazz he was involved in 35 recording sessions between 1994 and 2018.

Hall has taught as Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign since 2004 ; he now heads the Jazz Studies department at DePaul University . He has also taught at the Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, the Merit School of Music in Chicago, the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, and the Jazz Institute of Chicago .
