Danick Martel (* 12. December 1994 in Drummondville , Quebec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who, since February 2020 the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League is under contract and in parallel for their farm team , the Springfield Thunderbirds , in the American Hockey League on the position of the left winger .

Career

Martel initially spent his junior years between 2010 and 2012 with the Cantonniers de Magog in the lower class junior leagues in his home province of Québec . From there, the winger moved to the Armada de Blainville-Boisbriand in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec for the 2012/13 season after making his debut there in a game the previous year. In the service of the Armada, the attacker increased from year to year. After scoring 41 scorer points in his first year , he climbed over 60 points to finally 102 in his third and final year in the league. This gave him the election to the First All-Star Team of the league. In addition, he received the Plaque joueur humanitaire for his special social or community engagement . In addition, he prevailed within the entire Canadian Hockey League in the election for CHL Humanitarian of the Year against Scott Simmonds and Taylor Vickerman , who had received equivalent awards in the Ontario Hockey League and Western Hockey League .

In spring 2015, Martel received a contract offer from the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League , who used him exclusively in their farm team in the American Hockey League , the Lehigh Valley Phantoms , for the next three years . It was not until the end of the 2017/18 season that the offensive player was appointed to the NHL squad in Philadelphia for the first time and made his debut there. In July 2018, his expiring contract was finally extended for another year. Shortly before the start of the 2018/19 season , the Flyers then tried to send him back to the Phantoms in the AHL via the waiver . From there, however, he was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning , who thus took over the Canadian's contract. There he was then also mainly used in the AHL at the Syracuse Crunch , before the Lightning transferred him to the Florida Panthers in February 2020 in exchange for Anthony Greco .
