Daniel Aebi

Daniel “Booxy” Aebi (born December 11, 1973 in Bern ) is a Swiss musician of fusion and modern jazz ( drums , initially also trombone ).

Live and act

Aebi started playing the trombone at the age of ten ; when he was fifteen he switched to drums . From 1994 he studied, first in Boston at Berklee College of Music , then from 1995 to 2000 at the Swiss Jazz School (with Billy Brooks ).

In 1993 he co-founded the radio band Grand Mother's Funck , with which he had numerous appearances in Central Europe, France and England, and which from 2000 also worked as GMF Gran Orquesta under his direction (with additional wind instruments and percussionists) . He was also the drummer of the Swiss Jazz School Big Band , led by Bert Joris , which also appeared at the Montreux Jazz Festival , the Cully Jazz Festival and New York's Birdland with guest soloists such as Clark Terry , John Lewis and Bob Mintzer . From 2000 to 2012 he worked in various combos and big bands with Joe Haider . He also worked with George Gruntz , Sandy Patton , Andy Scherrer , George Robert , Stewy von Wattenwyl , the Big Band de Lausanne , with the Horn Knox quartet and the Sandro Schneebeli Group .

Aebi has lived in Vienna since 2013 and is active in the Austrian jazz scene. He leads the formations Booxy`s Box with Philipp Jagschitz, Martin Gasser and Andreas Waelti, the quintet The Message with Herwig Gradischnig , Maro Vavti, Matyas Gayer and Mathyas Hofecker, and Boogaloo Booxy with Andi Tausch , Anton Feinig and Georg Buxhofer. He also plays with Elias Meiri , Daniel Nösig, Christian Havel, Fabian Rucker, Swiss Jazz Orchestra , Paul Haags Twobones and the Sinatra Tribute Band.

Aebi is also active as a music teacher and as a member of several committees of the collecting society Swissperform (since 2008 specialist group performing audiovisuals, since 2017 board member). From 2008 to 2013 he was a member of the board of the Action Swiss Music Association (new: Sonart ).

Prizes and awards

Aebi was twice one of the Chrysler Jazz Winners 2000 at the Montreux Festival: he received second prize as a soloist and first prize as a member of the Daniel Woodtli Sextet .
