Martin Gasser (born April 18, 1990 in Villach ) is an Austrian jazz musician ( alto saxophone , also electric wind instrument , baritone saxophone , composition , flute ).

Live and act

Gasser grew up in Carinthia and started playing alto saxophone at the age of ten. He first received classical saxophone lessons. In his preliminary studies he was trained at the Carinthian State Conservatory in Klagenfurt from 2006 to 2009 in Michael Erian's class. From 2009 to 2013 he studied at the Conservatory of the City of Vienna Private University with Thomas Huber and Andy Middleton . He took part in workshops such as the Generations Festival in Frauenfeld or the IASJ meeting in Graz in 2012. Between 2013 and 2016 he completed the master's degree in jazz composition at the Cologne University of Music and Dance .

Gasser was a member of the European Jazz Orchestra 2012 and the Jeunesse World Jazz Orchestra 2013 . He is also a member of the Nouvelle Cuisine Big Band and the New Quartet of Roland Batik . In 2013 his debut CD Laubwald was released with the Modern Shape Quartet . He put together his own big band for his concert exam in Cologne in October 2016. With his quartet he released the album Blaues Gebet in 2016 , which he presented in Germany and Austria. He also arranged for the Subway Jazz Orchestra and performed with Nina Reiter .

Prizes and awards

Gasser is two-time laureate of the Carinthian promotion of gifted students and successfully participated in numerous youth music competitions, both as a soloist and in a saxophone quartet. In 2011 and 2012 he won the Fidelio competition with the Big Band of Philip Laminger and with the quartet "Electric Echo - In & Out of Order".
