Raid 2012

On August 28, 2012, in the presence of his then seven-year-old daughter in the Berlin district of Schöneberg , Alter was asked on the street by four young people of alleged Arab origin whether he was Jewish. When Alter said yes, he was insulted, beaten and injured, and his daughter was threatened. The attack, of which there are no witnesses and which remains unexplained to this day, provoked national and international outrage. The Israeli Foreign Ministry called the act an "act of the most brutal racism " and expected the German authorities to hold the perpetrators accountable and to prevent such acts of violence from being repeated. 150 people followed a call posted on Facebook for a demonstration of solidarity with old age on September 1, 2012 in City West , with the male participants wearing kippot . At another demonstration with 1,500 participants in Schöneberg on September 2, 2012, Alter emphasized his will to work “for interreligious dialogue and understanding between peoples and nations” regardless of the attack. In an interview on religious freedom in Germany, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said he was “deeply shocked” about the attack. In several appearances and interviews in various media, Alter repeated his thesis of the “no-go area” for Jews, e. B. in Berlin-Neukölln . In response to these statements, the anti-racist initiative Salaam-Schalom in Neukölln was founded by Muslims and Jews in December 2013 .

Anti-Semitism Commissioner for the Berlin Jewish Community

From 2012 to the end of 2015 Daniel Alter was the anti-Semitism officer of the Jewish Community in Berlin .

In his function as anti-Semitism officer, he spoke on February 12, 2014 in the house of the Berlin fraternity Gothia at a fraternity evening of the " Association of Old Fraternity Members of Berlin (VAB)", organized by the Gothia fraternity in cooperation with the Borussia Berlin choir, on the subject of " Together on education against latent and open anti-Semitism ”. It is worth noting that the Gothia Burschenschaft is a member of the German Burschenschaft , which the media associate with right-wing extremism .
