Live and act

Freiberg received classical piano lessons. An album by Dave Brubeck , which he received as a birthday present from his school friends, changed his life. Attracted by jazz, he decided to move to New York at the age of 21. There he studied composition, classical orchestration, classical piano and contemporary music at the Juilliard School of Music , as well as jazz arrangement, film music and jazz piano with Don Sebesky , Earle Hagen , Jaki Byard , Hal Galper , Gil Goldstein and Andy Laverne . He was particularly influenced by his mentor Jorge Calandrelli .

On the recommendation of Ignacio Berroa , Freiberg met Paquito D'Rivera , with whom he toured North America and Europe as a pianist for five years. His jazz arrangements were made by Stéphane Grappelli , the Dizzy Gillespie All Stars Big Band with D'Rivera, the Wynton Marsalis Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Regina Carter , Claudio Roditi , the WDR Big Band Köln , the Swiss Big Band and Jorge Dalto ( with Eddie Gomez ) performed or recorded.

Freiberg's composition For Lenny is recorded on D'Rivera's album Song for Maura , which won the 2014 Grammy for “Best Latin Jazz Album of the Year” and a Latin Grammy Award . His work can also be heard on albums by artists such as Marc Anthony , José Feliciano , Chayanne , José José , Olga Tañón , Ednita Nazario , Cheo Feliciano , Jerry Rivera and Willie Colón ; for Cristian Castro he wrote Amarte a ti , which became a number 1 hit on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks .

In 2015 the WDR Rundfunkorchester commissioned Freiberg's Latin American Chronicles and premiered it with the soloist Andy Miles (2016 on the CD Symphonic Jazz with Andy Miles ). The reception by musicians and the audience led to the commissioning of Northern Journey in 2017 and its world premiere by the same orchestra under the direction of Wayne Marshall . To kick off the Freiberg Jazz Days 2019, he composed the Freiberg Saxophone Concerto , which focused on saxophonist Anja Bachmann. Freiberg also works as a film and television composer.
