Daniel Hilpert (born June 9, 1837 in Erlangen , † February 6, 1923 in Nuremberg ) was a German lawyer, judicial councilor and honorary citizen of Erlangen.

Life

Daniel Hilpert, son of the printer and lending library owner Johann Ludwig Christian Hilpert († February 17, 1866 ) and his wife Katharina Friederike Hilpert (née Brunner), attended the humanistic grammar school Friedericianum in Erlangen . He studied 1856 to 1860 at the University of Erlangen first classics , from 1858 jurisprudence . During his studies he joined the Bubenruthia fraternity in 1857 . Between 1860 and 1870 he worked at various courts in Erlangen and other cities in the Kingdom of Bavaria , after passing the second legal judge's examination as a legal engineer. In 1870 Hilpert was appointed royal Bavarian lawyer. As an expert in commercial and corporate law , he advised companies and industrialists in Nuremberg and the surrounding area, including the pencil manufacturer AWFaber . He was appointed to the supervisory boards of several Nuremberg banks.

Hilpert is involved in his hometown Erlangen as a patron and charity and supported the university, the public bath, the orphanage fund and the erection of a memorial stone in the oak forest with high financial donations.

Awards

The city of Erlangen made him an honorary citizen in 1910 for his charitable sponsorship . On his 80th birthday in 1917, the law faculty of the University of Erlangen awarded him an honorary doctorate and the city of Erlangen the honorary coin in iron. In 1922 the city honored him by naming a street : Hilpertstrasse is located in the south of the city.
