Daniel M. Lewin
Daniel "Danny" Mark Lewin (born May 14, 1970 in Denver , Colorado ; † September 11, 2001 ) was an American mathematician , computer scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology MIT and one of the founders of the Internet service provider Akamai .
Life
Lewin grew up in Jerusalem , where he served in the Israeli army for four years and was an officer in the anti-terrorist unit Sajeret Matkal . After studying at the Technion in Haifa and working at the IBM research laboratory in Haifa, he continued his studies at MIT. During his doctoral thesis , he founded the Content Distribution Network Akamai, one of the world's leading solution providers for the delivery and acceleration of online content. Lewin was Akamai's chief technical officer at the height of the internet boom Multi-billionaire.
In the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , Daniel Lewin died as a passenger on American Airlines Flight 11 , the first aircraft to fly into the north tower of the World Trade Center . He was probably killed by the assassins at the beginning of the kidnapping when he possibly tried to thwart it.
In 2017 he was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame .
