Daniel Soreau
Daniel Soreau (* in Antwerp ; † buried on March 28, 1619 in Hanau ) was a German painter who established the still life genre in Hanau and the surrounding area.
Life
Daniel Soreau received citizenship in Frankfurt am Main in 1586 and married Johanna Flamen. He inherited a wool trading company from his father Johann Soreau from Tournai . He ran this company together with his brother Simon Soreau and his brother-in-law Stefan van Ninhoven, but could not prevent their bankruptcy in 1601. At times the company controlled the entire wool trade in Hesse and the Wetterau .
Soreau's son Daniel was baptized on March 11, 1599 in Frankfurt, the two twins Isaak and Peter on October 17, 1604.
As spokesman for the Welschen Protestants in 1597, together with Peter t'Kindt , Cornelius van Dael Louis de Blécourt and others, he was jointly responsible for the fact that many religious refugees from Frankfurt emigrated to the newly founded Hanauer Neustadt .
With his knowledge in the fields of architecture and art, he supported the city's founder, Philipp Ludwig II von Hanau-Münzenberg, with building projects such as the Walloon-Dutch Church .
plant
So far, no paintings are known that are verifiable by Soreau. However, there are one or two engravings by Johann Jenet based on Thieme-Becker , the basis of which is attributed to Soreau: A depiction of Caritas Romana in the Albertina Vienna with the reference from Soreau, as well as an illustration of the beheading of John the Baptist . A fruit basket still life was assigned to him several times, but never adequately occupied. It is now believed that it came from Jacob Huldonck , who influenced Isaak Soreau.
student
His students included his nephew Daniel (* December 11, 1597), as well as his two sons Isaak († not before 1645) and Peter († before 1672). He also taught Peter Binoit , who later married Soreau's niece Sarah. Although Daniel Soreau, according to his own statement, only wanted to teach his friends or relatives, he also accepted Sebastian Stoskopff as a student, who took over Soreau's workshop after his death.
reception
Soreau is mentioned twice in the Teutsche Academie by Joachim von Sandrart from 1675, who had received his first artistic lessons from Soreau. He is also the second edition of Architectvra. Dedicated by Wendel Dietterlin to the division, symmetry and proportion of the five columns, and all related art work, from windows, camines, door courts, portals, wells and epitaphs (Nuremberg, 1598) .
