Darius Dumitru Olaru (born March 3, 1998 in Mediaş ) is a Romanian football player who has been under contract with the first division club FCSB Bucharest since January 2020 . The offensive player is a former Romanian U21 international .

Olaru was born in Mediaș and grew up as a Dinamo Bucharest follower with his grandparents because his parents emigrated from Romania. comes from the youth department of Gaz Metan Mediaș and made his debut in the second highest Romanian division on August 29, 2015 (1st matchday) in a 2-1 away win against UTA Arad . He scored his first goal on October 31, 2015 (11th matchday) in a 3-0 home win against CS Sportul Snagov . In the 2015/16 season he played 12 league games in which he scored two goals and rose with the club to the top Romanian division . In the 2016/17 season he was only used sporadically in 10 league games and scored one goal.

In the following season 2017/18 he penetrated the starting line-up of head coach Cristian Pustai . He scored one goal in 36 league games this season. He retained this status in the 2018/19 season , in which he scored four goals and six assists in 34 league games.

In May 2019, Darius Olarus' move to league competitor FCSB Bucharest was announced. The record champions transferred a transfer fee of 600,000 euros for his services, assured Mediaș five percent of the future transfer fee and provided him with a five-year contract. Olaru stayed with Gaz Metan Mediaș until January 2020 and then left the club after 114 league games in which he scored eleven goals in the direction of Bucharest .

He made his debut for FCSB on February 2, 2020 (23rd match day) in the 0-1 away defeat against CFR Cluj , when he came on for Marko Momčilović in the 46th minute of the game . Four days later he scored his first goal in a 2-1 away win against FC Voluntari .

National team

From November 2018 to November 2019, Darius Olaru played nine international matches for the Romanian U21 national team , in which he scored one goal. In June 2019 he took part with the selection at the U21 European Championship 2019 in Italy and San Marino . There he played two of the four games and was eliminated with the team in the semifinals against Germany .
