The baseball club Darmstadt Whippets 1992 e. V. is a German baseball and softball club . The club was founded by young people in 1992 and won the German championship with the young people in 1995. In 1996 he was awarded the Green Belt of Dresdner Bank honored for his exemplary talent at the club. The Whippets are now the largest independent baseball club in Hessen .

The 1st men's team plays in the 2nd baseball league . The home games are played on the Memory Field in Darmstadt .

history

Even before the club was founded, a group of young people met in 1991 to play baseball on a regular basis on the football field behind the Frankenstein School in Darmstadt-Eberstadt . Knowledge of the rules and equipment were inadequate at the time, but in 1992 it was decided to set up its own club, the Eberstadt Whippets Baseball Club 1992 e. V. to found. The non-profit status was recognized by the tax office on September 11th, followed by the entry in the register of associations of the Darmstadt District Court on October 20th, the inclusion in the Hessian Baseball & Softball Association on November 1st and the inclusion in the State Sports Association of Hesse on December 15th. The name was given in 1993 in Baseball Club Darmstadt Whippets 1992 e. V. changed.

The Whippets youth team won the German championship in 1995. The Whippets were awarded the Green Belt in 1996 for good youth work and exemplary talent development in the association. The 1st men's team of the Whippets was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1999.

The Whippets play their home games on the memory field (Eschollbrücker Straße 71, 64295 Darmstadt). The association's office is also located there. A tower directly adjacent to the playing field in the Center Field is a striking landmark of the ball park and bears the eponymous inscription "Memory Field".

The facility is the sports park of the former US property Kelley-Barracks .

The outer dimensions of the baseball field measured from the home plate are approx. 313  feet (95 m) to the foul pole in the left field, approx. 361 feet (110 m) to the tower in the center field and approx. 305 feet (93 m) to to the foul pole in right field. A softball field is integrated in the right field .
