The Secret of the Trees is a nature documentary by French filmmaker and Antarctic explorer Luc Jacquet .

The film is based on the idea of the botanist Francis Hallé (* 1938), who spent many years studying the rainforests and deciphering the secrets of the interaction between plants and animals. The Secret of the Trees was produced by Bonne Pioche Cinéma in collaboration with France 3 Cinéma, Rhône-Alpes Cinéma and Wild-Touch and was released in Germany on January 2nd, 2014.

content

The documentary, recorded in the primeval and rainforests of Peru and Gabon , explains the life cycle of trees, explained by Francis Hallé. Luc Jacquet creates the emotionally charged scenario of an endangered flora that could renew itself on its own if it were given more time and space. Luc Jacquet's nature recordings are accompanied by music and prepared with animations to make the forest acoustically and visually tangible.

Locations

Peru

In Peru, the film team shot behind a small weather station on the banks of the Manú River in Camp Pakitza. This place was chosen because of the biodiversity of the Manú National Park , which lies in the two regions of Cusco and Madre de Dios and which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1977.

Gabon

Parts of the film were shot in the Ivindo National Park in the east and in the Loango National Park on the coast, south of the capital Libreville . Both parks are characterized by diverse landscapes with beaches, lagoons , mangrove forests , salt marshes , moors , savannas and forests. These ecosystems are particularly rare and consistently in good condition.
