Directed by Mario Andreacchio, the leading roles were cast with Wang Ji, Sam Neill , Robert Mammone , Jordan Chan , Li Lin Jin and Louis Corbett. The screenplay was written by Philip Dalkin based on a model by John Armstrong. The original story is from Ron Saunders, John Armstrong, and Mario Andreacchio.

Teens Josh and Ling take part in an archaeological dig in China with their parents . Under a temple they discover a real Chinese dragon. 2000 years ago, the dragon lent his almighty pearl to an emperor so that he could defend the kingdom. The emperor did not return the pearl, however, but had himself buried with it under his palace. When the two tell their parents the story, they want to find the pearl for themselves. The archaeologist Philip Dukas also believes in the incredible power of the pearl, but wants to use it for his dark ambitions. The only way to prevent this from happening is to find the pearl first and return it to its rightful owner.

Production data

The Secret of the Dragon Pearl is the first contractual co-production between Australia and China .

The film was shot in the Chinese Hengdian World Studios. There were also recordings in and around Hengdian . Hengdian is a four-hour drive south of Shanghai in Zhejiang Province . Post production was done in Adelaide , South Australia . CGI and visual effects come from two Adelaide companies.
