The year in which we first met is an American comedy film from the year 2008 . Directed by Patrick Sisam , who also wrote the screenplay based on the short stories The Year of Getting to Know Us and Star Food by Ethan Canin .

Christopher Rocket - whose childhood is shown in flashbacks in the 1970s - grew up an only child in Florida . His father is a passionate golfer . Rocket moves to New York , where he wants to pursue a career as a writer. He has a girlfriend, Anne, but remains at a distance from her.
Rocket returns to Florida to make up with his father.
Reviews
Sundance Film Festival organizers wrote that the film was "a dark comedic exploration of the dynamics of the classic dysfunctional family . " Jimmy Fallon plays his role with "delicious subtlety" .
The lexicon of international films said: "A (television) drama that tries to balance things out, tries to strike a softer note, but hardly penetrates into the depths of the characters."
