The Datsun 13 Truck was the first model in a long and successful line of small commercial vehicles based on Datsun passenger cars. In the case of the Datsun 13 Truck, this was the Datsun 13 , from which it differed in appearance in many ways. Starting with the radiator grille, which, unlike the Datsun 13, was not chrome-plated, was completely vertical and was made of sheet steel. This gave the truck a longer hood. As with the Datsun 13, the engine and transmission of the 13 truck were built by Yanase Motor and the Nihon Jidosha Corporation . The chassis was built by Tobata Casting's Automotive Division in Osaka . The assembly then took place in the Nissan plant . The Datsun 13 truck was produced between April 1934 and March 1935.

Datsun 14 truck

The Datsun 14 Truck, derived from the Datsun 14 , received the same technical changes as this model, but with a longer bonnet and vertical steel grille from the 13 Truck. It was also produced in the new plant in Yokohama from 1935 to 1936.

Datsun 15 truck

The dimensions of the Datsun 15 had changed and so the 15 truck grew in parallel. The front section was the same as the 13 and 14 truck. The Datsun 15 truck was produced from 1936 to 1938, as no truck model of the Datsun 16 was developed as a result of the war in Manchuria .

Production period: 1938-1944
Engines: Otto engines : 0.72 l
Length: 3187 mm
Width: 1190 mm

The Datsun 17 truck based on the Datsun 17 was introduced in April 1938. It replaced the Datsun 15 truck as no Datsun 16 truck was produced. Since Japan took part in World War II , production had to be shifted from passenger cars to trucks and commercial vehicles. The Datsun 17 remained in production for only one year, while the 17 Truck was manufactured until January 1944. The Datsun 17 Truck was nothing more than a revised version of the previous Datsun 15 Truck. Most of the changes were more like deteriorations. Due to the war, many raw materials were difficult to come by. Therefore, the 17 truck was equipped more spartan. If the grille was painted differently on the truck, the vehicle was now completely in one color. The 722 cm³ four-cylinder Datsun Type 7 engine with 16 hp was still used as the engine . After the war, the design of the 17 truck was used again. The chassis and engine of the 17 truck were the basis of the Datsun 1121 and Datsun 2124 trucks. In 1949 the 17 truck went into production with a different grille than the Datsun 3135 truck and in 1950 almost identical to the Datsun 4146 .
