The Datsun on-Do (proper spelling: on-DO) is a car model from the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan , which was initially designed specifically for the Russian market. It is part of Renault-Nissan's strategy to reintroduce the Datsun brand, which was discontinued in the 1980s, as an affordable brand for emerging markets.

The four-door notchback sedan is assigned to the small car class.

Surname

"Do" means "way" or "movement" in Japanese. The prefix "on" stands for "he" in Russian and, according to the manufacturer, is intended to emphasize the self-confident appearance of the model.

Development and production

The Datsun on-Do was developed in Japan. It is being built in Togliatti, Russia, as part of the cooperation between Renault-Nissan and the Russian car manufacturer AwtoWAS , which also produces Lada models. A modified AwtoWAS platform is used for the production of Datsun on-Do, and production capacities in the AwtoWAS factory are used.

Technical data and price

At 1,700 mm, the on-Do is just as wide and 1,500 mm high as the Lada Granta , with which it shares the platform, but at 4,337 mm it is a little longer. The on-Do is only available with a 65 kW petrol engine (87 hp, 88 hp) and a manually shifted 5-speed gearbox. According to the manufacturer, it is offered for less than 400,000 Russian rubles , the equivalent of around 7,700 euros.
