The Datsun 16 appeared in April 1937 and was the same as the Datsun 15 except for the arrangement of the chrome strips on the bonnet . The mechanics of the Datsun 16 were also the same as the Datsun 15. Because of the war in Manchuria, material was scarce and the interior of the vehicle was rather sparsely equipped. There was also no separate truck variant of the 16, but the Datsun 15 Truck continued to be produced until the Datsun 17 and its pickup version, the Datsun 17 Truck, both replaced in 1938 .
