The Datsun mi-Do (proper spelling: mi-DO) is a car model of the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan , which was designed for the Russian market. It is part of Renault-Nissan's strategy to reintroduce the Datsun brand, which was discontinued in the 1980s, as an affordable brand for emerging markets.

The five-door hatchback is the small car class assigned and is the sister model to the notchback sedan Datsun on-Thu . The mi-Do was unveiled at the Moscow Motor Show in August 2014 and has been available since, 2015.

Surname

Do means "way" or "movement" in Japanese. The preceding mi should remind of the English "me" and stand for personalization.

Development and production

The Datsun mi-Do was created as part of Renault-Nissan's majority stake in the Russian automobile manufacturer AwtoWAS , which otherwise produces Lada models. The mi-Do uses an adapted platform from the Lada Kalina . It comes off the production line together with this and with Datsun on-Do at the AwtoWas plant in Togliatti, Russia .

Technical data and equipment

The Datsun mi-Do is the same as the on-Do in height, width and wheelbase, but with a length of 3950 mm it is 387 mm shorter. It is only available with a 1.6 liter gasoline engine with 64 kW (87 PS) or 78 kW (106 PS). The 64 kW variant is optionally available with a manual 5-speed gearbox or a 4-speed automatic. Two airbags and an anti-lock braking system are standard , as are heated seats and exterior mirrors.
