After the main town, Dauernheim is the largest district of the Ranstadt community in the Wetterau district in Hesse .

location

Dauernheim is located west of Ranstadt in the Wetterau , about 30 km northeast of the Rhine / Main metropolis of Frankfurt. In the Dauernheim district, the Nidda leaves its narrow valley between the foothills of the Vogelsberg and flows into the wide plains of the Wetterau meadow landscape. The A45 motorway cuts through the open Niddatal and leads through dense mixed beech forests in the Markwald and on the Hohe Berg. State road 3187 runs south of Dauernheim. In addition to the forest and agricultural corridors, the municipality of Dauernheim has two nature reserves of European importance.

history

The place is first mentioned between the years 750 and 802 as Turenheim . Since the High Middle Ages the place belonged to the county of Nidda , later to the county of Ziegenhain .

Fortifications of the place can still be seen today, namely a defensive tower and the cellars carved deep into the rock below the Protestant church . The rock cellars were built in the Kirchberg between the 16th and 19th centuries and have shaped the townscape of Dauernheim ever since. They were measured in 2002 on behalf of the Dauernheim cultural association by students from the Alsfeld technical school .

On October 1, 1971, Dauernheim was incorporated into the community of Ranstadt.

In 2007 all clubs organized a big festival to celebrate the 1225th birthday.

Nature reserves

At the “Faulenberg near Dauernheim” (FFH area 5619-303) there are near-natural dry lime lawns and their stages of shrubbery, lean flatland hay meadows, and silicate rocks with corresponding pioneer vegetation.

The "Nachtweid von Dauernheim" (part of the FFH area 5619-306 "Grassland areas in the Wetterau" and the VR area 5519-401 "Wetterau".) Is one of the largest and most valuable grassland areas with a size of approx. Protected areas of Hesse. Their core areas offer ideal living conditions for endangered animal species. It is the most important Rallenbiotope in Hesse, both in terms of species and number of individuals. Due to the emergence of water containing mineral salts in the rooted horizons, halophilic or halotolerant, z. T. very rare plant species. Of the 16 proven species on the “Hessen Red List”, 6 come from these small, salt-influenced locations.

Over 50 functional models of mills and of water- or air-powered assemblies are shown in the mill model exhibition of the Dauernheim cultural association. Most models are powered and can be started by visitors. They illustrate the pre-industrial technology used by people from ancient times to modern times. The mill model exhibition is located in the center of the village with access via the barbecue area.
