David Bell (born June 20, 1981 in Oakland , California ) is an American basketball player . He is currently under contract with Brussels Basket, and during his career he played for Phoenix Hagen for several years .
Career
During his studies at the University of Montana in Missoula , Bell was active for the college team called Grizzlies in the NCAA Division I. For two seasons he was one of the five best players in the Big Sky Conference , he led the Grizzlies as top scorer and holds the team-internal record for the most successful three-point throws in one season. After that, he left college and returned to his hometown. A year later, he began to play basketball professionally and signed a contract in Swiss Lausanne . With an average of 20 points and an accuracy of 44 percent from behind the three-point line , he confirmed his strengths, which he had also shown in his seasons in college. After an engagement in Neuchâtel , he moved to the Finnish Korisliiga to Kouvot from Kouvola in January 2006 , before he returned to his home country in the summer of 2006 and was active in the Continental Basketball Association for the then newly founded and now reinstated Daredevils from Butte . The following summer he played in the USBL summer league . In January 2008 he went into Europe again, this time not in French-speaking Switzerland , but in France itself. After nine games for the club from Reims , which was then in the second French league LNB Pro B , he returned to the in March 2008 United States and from then on played for the Dakota Wizards in the NBA Development League . In September 2010, the German first division team Phoenix from the Westphalian Hagen announced the commitment of Bell for the beginning of the season. For the 2011/2012 season Bell moved to the Netherlands to the GasTerra Flames from Groningen in the FEB . After a year in the Netherlands, Bell moved back to Germany and joined Phoenix Hagen again for the 2012/2013 season. In recognition of his achievements in the Hagen jersey, he was awarded the title of honorary captain. He played a total of 175 Bundesliga games for Phoenix, his highest point average in his time in Hagen was achieved during the 2014/15 season with 17.7. He played for the team for five and a half years, longer than any other foreigner in the history of the Hagen Bundesliga before him.
In December 2016, after the bankruptcy of Phoenix Hagen, he moved to the Italian first division club Dinamo Sassari , in the 2017/18 season he strengthened the second division club Andrea Costa Imola and scored an average of 15.9 points for the team.
At the end of June 2018, Bell signed a contract with Bundesliga club Gießen 46ers , where his long-time Hagen trainer Ingo Freyer worked. He had to undergo an operation in August 2018 because of a ruptured pectoral muscle.
In summer 2019 he moved to Brussels Basket in Belgium. He made 16 league appearances in the 2019/20 season (10.4 points / game).
Others
With Daren Engellant , then still with Brandt Hagen , and Jordan Hasquet , two other former players of the Montana Grizzlies played first division basketball in Hagen. Although Hasquet, who was four years his junior, was also active in Finland and Switzerland, Bell and Hasquet never played together in a team.
