Life

After working in the IT industry and as a management consultant, Harnasch began working for local television and radio, including the Badische Zeitung . For the local broadcaster TV Südbaden he visited clubs and trade fairs in the region as a "night owl" and conducted interviews with various artists and celebrities, including Markus Kavka . He also wrote for the journalistic network The Axis of the Good and the blog Friends of the Open Society .

He produced the video column "Media Fairy Tales" for the daily newspaper Die Welt . In the meanwhile discontinued news portal zoomer.de he regularly published videos in the column “Opinion maker”. The Tagesspiegel printed several of its contributions as guest comments. He also wrote irregularly for the Jüdische Allgemeine . Until 2008 he ran the video blog VDU worker , in which he critically dealt with the medium of television, especially with public broadcasting . He particularly focused on political broadcasts.

On February 26, 2009, the Franco-German cultural broadcaster ARTE broadcast a debate on its Paris-Berlin program entitled “What culture for television?” In which David Harnasch, as a German guest, participated in the discussion alongside French celebrities.

From mid-2009 to 2010, Harnasch worked for the political magazine Cicero . Together with Ivo Bozic from the weekly newspaper Jungle World , he published the video column Berlin long-distance calls every two weeks from 2010 onwards . In 2011, his TV review moved to WELT online . Since then, he commented uA even with bild.de .

Also in 2011 he was commissioned by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation to completely redesign their magazine liberally and to be responsible for a relaunch, with the frequency of publication increased from four to six issues per year. Subsequently, he was its editor-in-chief until issue 4/2014 . Because as a freelancer suffered from the payment practices of some clients, he founded in 2014 together with two friends on the self-employed and SMEs specialized factoring companies "Pagido". Axel Springer SE was also among the investors via the accelerator Axel Springer Plug and Play .

In 2016, as managing director, he founded the journalistic online platform Salon Columnists together with editor-in-chief Jan-Philipp Hein . He lived in Berlin and Freiburg . Currently (2019) he also lives as a digital nomad in Portugal and Israel.

Positions

After Harnasch initially represented left-wing positions in his youth and was a sustaining member of Greenpeace , he later became a member of the FDP and stood up for freedom, democracy, globalization and support for the USA . He advocated the Iraq war , considers any kind of socialism to be socially and economically questionable and supported the positions of Paul Kirchhof when he was briefly appointed finance minister.

Harnasch criticizes what, in his opinion, is often tendentious reporting by public television channels in Germany. In addition to ARD and ZDF , the 3sat channel's Kulturzeit program was in focus several times, including a contribution in which students were portrayed as supporters of a “tolerant Islam” who wanted to behead the Dutch politician Geert Wilders .

Jan-Philipp Hein certified Harnasch on Spiegel Online :

“Harnasch's argumentation is mostly stringent and comprehensible [...] Like Kalkofe, he beams himself into the backdrops of the caricatured and criticized programs from time to time. This is mostly original, less rowdy, but just as funny as with the old master Kalkofe. "
