David Theile (born January 17, 1938 in Maryborough ) is a former Australian swimmer .
At the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne and the 1960 Olympics in Rome , he was the 100m back each Olympic champion . He also won at the games in Rome with the medley relay silver medal from the Australian.
After the international swimming federation announced after the Olympic Games that the 100 m backs in the competition program should be exchanged for the 200 m backs, Theile ended his career. In 1968 he was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .
