David Wirth

David Wirth (born December 23, 1885 in Tüffer , Austria-Hungary , today Laško, Slovenia , † April 30, 1971 in Vienna ) was an Austrian veterinarian .

Life

Family and education

The Catholic baptized David Wirth , from the town of Tüffer in Lower Styria , son of the notary Johann Wirth and his wife Josefine née Eder, turned to studying veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna after graduating from high school , in 1909 he was promoted to Dr. med. vet. PhD .

David Wirth married Hanna Langer's first marriage in 1911. The children named Gertrud and Harald came from this connection. In 1946 he married Karoline Fiala in his second marriage. David Wirth died in April 1971 at the age of 85 in Vienna.

Professional background

David Wirth resigned after his graduation a job as a research assistant at the Veterinary University of Vienna, 1915 habilitated himself as a lecturer in the subject Special Pathology and Therapy, 1920, he became a full professor appointed and hospital board. From 1931 to 1933 he also held the office of rector . During the Nazi era he was a member of the Lecturer Association and was accepted into the NSDAP in 1942 ( membership number 8.225.664). In 1946 he left the service at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna. In 1950 Wirth took over a professorship for internal diseases at the Medical Veterinary Clinic of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , and in 1955 he retired.

David Wirth, one of the founders of the Society of Veterinarians in 1919, is one of the leading veterinarians in Austria in the first half of the 20th century. In recognition of his special services to his field, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich in 1950 and from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover in 1953 .
