Deer Park is a city with a status of City in Spokane County in the US state of Washington . At the 2010 United States Census , Deer Park had 3,652 residents, down from 3,017 at the 2000 Census.

history

Located north of Spokane , Deer Park was officially recognized on June 24, 1908. Deer Park got its name when railroad surveyors saw a deer grazing in the area. The place was settled in 1889 when a branch line was built for the Spokane Falls & Northern Railway . Soon after, a Standard Lumber Company sawmill was built by William Short and George Crawford to provide wood for rebuilding the nearby town of Spokane Falls (later renamed Spokane) after the great fire of 1889. By 1900, Deer Park's population had grown to an estimated 300 people. In addition to the sawmill, the parish consisted of three village shops (each of which was owned by P. Kelly, Dan Weis and A. Baldwin), a farrier and saddlery, a livery and fodder supplier, Jeff Moore's Hotel, Dr. Prince's Drugstore, a public school with approximately 75 students and a congressional church under the direction of Reverend F. McConaughy. By that time, there were at least eight sawmills within ten miles of Deer Park, all of which had their supplies and employees in town.

The Arcadia Apple Orchards Company was founded around 1906 and apple orchards were planted on the surrounding lands that had been deforested due to logging and clearing.

The urban airfield east of the city was built during World War II in August 1944 with three paved runways that were 6,100 ft. (1,860 m) long. During the early 1960s was a basis for intercontinental ballistic missiles of the type SM-65E Atlas near the airfield by the 567 th Strategic Missile Squadron from Fairchild Air Force Base operated. Since it was soon obsolete, the base was dismantled in 1965 and sold for canning in 1967.
